LAKE STEVENS -- No. 7 seed Moses Lake had a tough time slowing down the high-octane offense of No. 2 Lake Stevens on Saturday in a 76-41 season-ending loss in the Class 4A state quarterfinals.
Even in defeat, Mavericks senior quarterback Brady Jay threw for 338 yards and six touchdowns, giving him 72 TD passes on the season — a new Washington high school record, surpassing Prosser’s Kellen Moore, who threw 67 in 2006.
The Big Nine champion Mavericks (11-1) fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter before Jay found Elijah Burns for a 65-yard score early in the second quarter. Moses Lake fell behind 35-14 at the half and cut the lead to 14 early in the third on a 24-yard strike from Jay to Burns.
Jay also connected with Grant Smith on an 18-yard TD in the third quarter and added a 20-yarder to Carter Anderson in the fourth.
Burns caught three scores, and Smith nabbed two to give him 22 for the season.
Lake Stevens, the 2022 and 2023 state champion, advanced to play No. 6 Graham-Kapowsin in the 4A semifinals next weekend.
