RENTON – A monstrous holiday weekend continued for West Valley sophomore Austin Birley on Monday at the MLK Invitational at Renton High School.

Birley, a 6-foot-5 combo guard, made 13 of 18 shots and scored 30 points, and added eight rebounds and five assists for the seventh-ranked Rams, who defeated Bellevue, 100-73.

The Wolverines, ranked No, 6 in Class 3A, have probably seen enough of Birley. Last year at the event he sank a half-court shot at the buzzer to lift West Valley past Bellevue.

Actually, the Wolverines could probably do without seeing most of the Rams after Monday.

WV senior guard Parker Hill shot 9-for-15 for 19 points, and dished out 15 assists, and sophomore wing Jett Bremerman drilled six 3-pointers for the second straight game.

Rams post Parker Mills put up 16 points and eight rebounds for the Rams, who improved to 12-2 and returns to CBBN play Saturday with a visit to Eastmont.

Birley, who was named one of a dozen WIAA Athletes of the Week on Thursday, capped quite the weekend with Monday’s outburst.

In an 87-53 victory Friday against Wenatchee, Birley put up his second triple-double of the season, and came within a blocked shot of a quadruple-double. He finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and nine shot blocked.

Saturday, he had a routine 17 points as the Rams improved to 6-0 in conference play with an 86-54 victory.

DAVIS GIRLS 54, LAKE WASHINGTON 48: At Federal Way High School, top-ranked Davis held off the sixth-ranked Kangaroos as Cheyenne Hull scored a game-high 26 points and Kobe Johnson

added 12, including a key 3-pointer late in the game. Davis (11-2) will host 1A No. 1 Zillah on

 Wednesday night at 7.

FEDERAL WAY BOYS 68, DAVIS 61: At Federal Way High School, the Eagles outlasted the Pirates

in the latest matchup between the perennial Class 4A state contenders. D’Anthony Wiggins had

22 points for the Pirates (2-11), who visit Wenatchee on Friday.

SELAH GIRLS 58, MOUNT RAINIER 20: At Seattle Pacific University, the fifth-ranked Vikings rolled past the Rams, with Elise Kingston scoring a team-high 14 for Selah, and Braylee Pendleton and Makenna Pepper each added 10. The Viks (13-3) return to CWAC play Friday when they travel to Toppenish.

MERCER ISLAND BOYS 59, SELAH 56: At Renton High School, the 3A Islanders improved to 13-3

by edging the Vikings, ranked third in 2A. Selah (14-2) heads to Toppenish on Friday to resume CWAC play.
