OTHELLO – Toppenish’s girls wrestling team showed Saturday why it’ll be going for a fifth straight state championship in three weeks.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A, rolled to three victories at the 2A-1A-B Girls Dual State Championship.

After a first-round bye, Toppenish beat Aberdeen 81-0 in the quarterfinals. The Wildcats followed that with a 61-17 semifinal humbling of seventh-ranked W.F. West 61-17, to set up a championship dual with CWAC rival Othello.

Unlike a tight conference dual last month, Toppenish rolled to a 61-18 victory Saturday.

The victory was powered by the Wildcats’ defending champions.

Sophia Torrez, a three-timed champion who is ranked No. 1 at 105 pounds, recorded three pins Saturday. In her first match, Torrez scored a fall in 33 seconds, before wrestling at 110 in her next two matches, with pins in the first and third periods, respectively.

Fellow three-time titlist Adalyne Montiel, top-ranked at 110, pinned opponents at 120 and 110 pounds, spending just more than 6 minutes on the mat. She won by forfeit in the first dual.

Sara Ortega, the 135-pound champ last February who is No. 1 at 140 this season, recorded three first-round pins, with the last coming at 135 pounds.

Othello, ranked No. 1 in 2A. also earned a bye into the quarterfinals where it defeated Newport 60-23 and beat fifth-ranked 2A Orting 69-12 in the semis.

The Huskies lost defending 235-pound champion Alejandra Espindola to injury, while Grayce Mendez, the state runner-up at 110 in 2025, is trying to work her way into the lineup after surgery late last spring.

Sixth-ranked Quincy, which lost by a point to Orting in the quarterfinals, tied for fifth with Aberdeen, while Zillah, ranked third in 1A-2B-1B, shared seventh with Chief Sealth.

At the 4A Dual State Championship, Sunnyside’s eighth-ranked team took second, while No. 9 Davis tied for fifth.

Davis sophomore Reinalda Gonzalez, the 2025 titlist at 120 and third-ranked at 125, notched two pins and a 7-0 decision, while Grizzlies senior Danica Torres, the state champion at 105 last year and No. 3 at 110, was 2-1 in her matches.

Sunnyside junior Kaylia Maltos earned three pins at 100 pounds for Sunnyside.
