West Valley's Mills commits to Cougs, Moore

New Washington State football coach and Prosser High graduate Kirby Moore continued to dip into the Yakima Valley talent pool this week.

West Valley offensive lineman Parker Mills posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he is committed. A likely preferred walk-on, the relative football newcomer is the second player originally from the area to commit to the new Cougars staff.

Last Wednesday, Sumner running back Lance McGee, who played his first three years at Davis before transferring to the Pierce County school where he was named the state player of the year after his record-setting performances led the Spartans to their second straight state championship, signed with WSU after flipping his commitment from Oregon State.

Mills put football pads on for the first time in the fall of 2024, and was a second-team all-CBBN selection this past season.

His size – 6-foot-6, 290 pounds – and athleticism – he’s almost assured of earning his fourth first-team all-conference honors for basketball – made him a recruiting target.

And despire the relatively late start – the summer between a player’s sophomore and junior seasons is prime recruiting season – and the opportunity to find plug-and-play talent in the burgeoning transfer portal, Mills might have found the perfect spot.

“Coach Moore and his staff were a class act to deal with,” West Valley coach Ryan Scott said. “(Parker) and his family are excited for this opportunity. They got a good one.”

Moore, who set several records while playing receiver in his father Tom Moore’s pass-happy Mustangs offense, was hired in December to take over the WSU program as it transitions into the reshaped Pac-12.

He was the offensive coordinator at Missouri, and also has served on staffs at Washington and Fresno State.

His older brother Kellen, a record-setting QB at Prosser, just finished his first season as coach of the New Orleans Saints.

WSU opens the 2026 season Sept. 5 by visiting the Huskies for the Apple Cup.
