On a night with plenty at stake in the CBBN, the top-ranked Davis girls dispensed with any drama in their game.
The Pirates raced past Wenatchee 72-7 to finish unbeaten in conference play for the third straight year and run their CBBN winning streak to 37 games.
A dozen players played and nine scored for the defending Class 4A state champions, who improved to 19-2.
Eastern Washington-bound guard Deets Parrish led four Pirates in double figures with a game-high 15 points on Senior Night, while Ella Craig, the team’s other 12th-grader had 11 points. Juniors Isa
Garcia and Cheyenne Hulle had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
BOYS STANDINGS/GIRLS STANDINGS
Akil White now has 99 victories in five full seasons and a pandemic-shortened 2021 schedule. Davis coach. He’ll have a chance to reach the century mark in the district championship game.
When that will be and who it will be against are still up in the air.
Both district championship games are scheduled for next Friday, with the Pirates and West Valley’s boys, who capped their unbeaten CBBN run last week, to host.
However, Sunnyside’s victory Friday at Moses Lake, makes a third game between Eisenhower and
West Valley necessary. The Cadets and Rams tied for second at 8-4.
The teams split their regular-season matchup, each winning at home. Davis will house the tiebreaker, which is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.
If West Valley wins, the championship schedule likely will be revised, since the Rams squads would be playing at the same time.
The boys championship matchup also had to be completed Friday. Sunnyside and Moses Lake both entered Friday with 7-4 conference records, with the Mavericks hosting the Grizzlies.
Moses Lake senior Brady Jay, the record-setting quarterback headed to Montana, scored a team-high 30 points and Grady Walker added 21 in a 72-64 to secure a spot in the district final against the Rams.
The Mavericks (14-6) fell one game short of a state berth last season. They’ll have two shots to earn that bid this year, the benefit of finishing in the top two.
Sunnyside junior Aiden Sanchez poured in 43 points to lead the Grizzlies (12-8). It’s his second game this season that he’s scored more than 40 points.
Sanchez had a school-record 49 points against Pasco.
In Friday night's other boys game, Marcus Smith scored 15 points and David Vazquez added 11 and Davis beat Wenatchee 58-37.
