Pirates' Hull, Rams' Mills named CBBN top players

Davis star junior repeats honor, West Valley post all-CBBN four times

The top junior in the state and a four-year force were revealed Monday as the CBBN Players of the Year.

Davis 11th-grader Cheyenne Hull, who topped the league in scoring for the top-ranked Pirates, repeated as the girls Player of the Year.

West Valley senior post Parker Mills, a three-time first-team all-CBBN selection heading into this season, took the top honors this season.

Hull, who also was named the Defensive Player of the Year, was joined on the first team by teammates Isa Garcia and Kobe Johnson.

Hull averaged 19.5 points per game for the Pirates, who open their state run at home Saturday night at 8 against familiar postseason foe Sumner. Last year, the Spartans upset Davis at the Pirate Ship, forcing the Pirates to win a loser-out contest on Wednesday of the state tournament in the Tacoma Dome.

Eventually, Davis advanced to the title game and avenged its loss to Sumner.

The Pirates finished a third straight unbeaten conference and rolled to the district title.

Mills also led the Rams to an unbeaten Big Nine record and district championship.

In the district final victory against Moses Lake, the Washington State-bound offensive tackle, totaled 34 points and 14 rebounds.

Mills, who was fourth in the conference in scoring at 19.2 points per game, was joined on the first team by West Valley sophomore Austin Birley, who also was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

The Rams are seeded eighth in the 4A tournament, and travel to Issaquah to meet No. 1 Mount Si at 4 p.m. Saturday.
