YAKIMA – It was quite the way to start a state tournament.

In the first game of the four-day event, Nathan Hale senior Zia-Daye Anderson set several records in the Raiders’ 83-71 overtime victory over No. 6 W.F. West in a round-of-12 game in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

The Boise State-bound guard scorched the nets for 52 points, topping the 26-year-old record of 40 set by Pullman’s Christa Brossman.

Anderson’s 38 field-goal attempts topped the 32 by W.F. West’s Julia Dalan two tournaments ago. Her 16 makes broke the mark held by Dalan and four others.

She also tied the 2A tourney record with six made 3-pointers on 18 attempts, another record.

The 159 combined points shattered the previous best of 139 set in in an 85-54 Nooksack Valley victory against Castle Rock in 2002.

Nathan Hale trailed by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter before rallying to force the extra session.

The Raiders meet No. 4 Clarkston (21-3) in a 9 a.m. quarterfinal Thursday.
