Othello zeroes in for first CWAC championship since 2003
Huskies no-hit Toppenish twice, Ellensburg, Selah also sweep with district next

TOPPENISH – Third-ranked Othello rolled to its first outright CWAC championship since 2003, riding its unhittable pitching Saturday to a sweep of Toppenish to cap the regular season.
Xzyyvn Martinez, who hasn’t given up an earned run in conference play, pitched four perfect innings in the opener against the Wildcats, striking out 10 of the 12 batters he faced in the 11-0 six-inning victory.
Tyler Suarez capped the outing with two hitless innings.
Aiden Garza, the co-ace of the staff, followed with three hitless innings of his own in the second game. One Toppenish batter reached on an error against Garza, who struck out eight in the 17-1 win that went five innings.
Trey Tovar fanned six batters in two innings, and gave up an unearned run.
The Huskies (15-1 CWAC, 18-3 overall) will be the No. 1 seed in the district tournament and will host fourth-seeded Selah at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a first-round game, with the winner advancing to the semifinals with a state berth at stake.
Zayvier Olazcon and Seattle U-bound Quade Gonzalez had three hits, two runs and an RBI in the opener for the Huskies, who have won eight straight games.
Aaden Montes doubled twice and drove in a run, and Trey Tovar and Garrett Weyns each had two RBI in the game that went six innings.
In the second game, Martinez had four hits, including a double, and drove in five runs to pace the 16-hit attack.
Tovar added three hits and two RBI, and Olazcon added a pair of hits and drove in two for Othello, which is No. 2 in the WIAA RPI.
Huskies coach Sonny Garza was a member of the 2003 conference champs that went on to with the Class 2A state title.
Ellensburg (13-3. 13-7) will be the second seed and wrapped up the regular season by sweeping Ephrata (3-13, 4-17), 10-0 and 12-2.
Cash Gibson finished with four hits and five RBI in the doubleheader, and Easton Armstrong scored three runs and drove in two for the day, and tossed a five-inning no-hitter to cap the sweep.
For Selah (11-5, 13-7), Braxton Young and Ryker Muir combined on a four-hit shutout in a five-inning opener. Jack Kennedy led the offense with two hits and three RBI in the 10-0 victory over Prosser (7-9, 10-9).
Dylan Kingston had a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth, and Young followed with an RBI double to cap the scoring in the 5-2 win at Archer Field.
East Valley (11-5, 14-6) had already secured the No. 3 spot and was idle Saturday. The Red Devils will visit Ellensburg on Tuesday at 4:30 in a first-round game.
Grandview (7-9, 9-11) swept Quincy (5-11, 7-16) 10-0 and 8-4 on Saturday.

Ellensburg sweeps Ephrata
ELLENSBURG – Kylie Ayling hit a three-run homer to key a 12-run second inning and Ellensburg beat Ephrata 18-1 in Saturday's CWAC doubleheader.
The Bulldogs, the No. 3 seed in the CWAC district tournament, scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the Tigers 8-7 in the second game.
Sarah Stueckle had two hits, one of them a double, and knocked in two runs for Ellensburg (12-4 CWAC, 16-5 overall).
