College Place tops Naches Valley for District 5 fastpitch title
Ray, Ortega lead Hawks to championship, Royal stays alive for state berth

YAKIMA – College Place junior Anna Ortega, the SCAC co-Player of the Year tossed a complete game with 15 strikeouts against no walks and the top-seeded Hawks defeated upstart Naches Valley on Tuesday night to win the District 5 fastpitch championship at Kiwanis Park.
Sophomore Carli Ray, who has slugged a school-record 12 home runs this season, has two hits – one of them a double – drove in a run and stole home for College Place (22-2).
Ortega and Rio Hayes also had two hits of the Hawks’ 10-hit attack.
Kaydence Strocsher had an RBI double and Emma Snyder had two hits for the Rangers (10-13), who upset league rival Royal and Caribou Trail League champion Chelan to reach the championship game.
College Place and Naches Valley already had locked up berths to the Class 1A state tournament May 22-23 at the Columbia Playfields in Richland.
The Knights (18-7) will be looking to join them after defeating Kiona-Benton, 6-1, to earn a berth, and following that with a 10-0 victory against the Goats to get the higher seed for the winner-to-state crossovers with the Northeast A League on Saturday.
Emerson Eilers had a three-run triple and SCAC co-Player of the Year Jill Allred struck out 10 and walked none in a complete-game effort against the Bears.
Against the Goats, Allred tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and added three hits, and Eilers had an RBI double and two-run single.
Averie Hill added two hits and two RBI, and Lizzie Jenks drove in a pair of runs.
Royal will meet Colville on Saturday for a state berth.
