Week 3 picks with key conference games, crosstown rivalries on tap

Murrow the Magnificent and the Great Swentini ready to forecast the football season

STAT HOUND

Sep 17, 2026

They’re late to the party – perhaps their forecasting isn’t as fearless as it once was – but former Tri-City Herald sports editor Jeff Morrow and his Yakima Herald-Republic counterpart Jerrel Swenning are giving their thoughts on the 19 games of Week 3.

All conferences are now into league play, with the CBBN and Mid-Columbia joining the CWAC and SCAC, which have conference games from the get-go.

So, through their alter egos – Murrow the Magnificent and the Great Swentini, here are the picks for this week’s games:

CBBN

Friday’s Games

Eastmont at Sunnyside

At Sunnyside High School, 7 p.m.

New Wildcats coach Rory Rosenbach has the offense humming, while the Grizzlies are trying to get their footing under first-year coach Lavon Coleman.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Eastmont.

Eisenhower at Davis

At Zaepfel Stadium, 7 p.m.

The Yakima rivals have met more than 75 times, and the Pirates are aiming at a three-game winning streak in the series.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Davis.

West Valley at Moses Lake

At Lions Field, 7 p.m.

The Mavericks went east to meet Coeur d’Alene and got a gauge of where they are, and will look to rebound and start defense of their conference title.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Moses Lake.

Saturday’s Game

South Kitsap at Wenatchee

At Apple Bowl, 3 p.m.

After trips to California and Kirkland, the Panthers return home looking to improve to 3-0.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Wenatchee.

MCC

Thursday’s Games

Hanford at Walla Walla

At Blue Devil Stadium, 7 p.m.

Both teams split their nonleague games, and will fire up conference play in a matchup that Falcons won a year ago,

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Walla Walla.

Southridge at Chiawana

At Edgar Brown Stadium, 7 p.m.

The Riverhawks battled past Mead to improve to 2-0 this season, while the Suns were edged by Eastmont on the road.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Chiawana.

Friday’s Games

Kamiakin at Kennewick

At Lampson Stadium, 7 p.m.

The crosstown rivals have rolled in their first games, and will look to get a jump on playoff positioning in this one,

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Kennewick.

Richland at Sageview

At Edgar Brown Stadium, 7 p.m.

The Lobos are 2-0 after going winless in their first season, while the Bombers are looking for their first win with star quarterback Jackson Woodard dinged up.

The picks – Morrow: Sageview. Swenning: Richland.

Pasco at Hemiston

At Hermiston High School, 7 p.m.

In the battle of Bulldogs, both teams are coming off victories that evened their record. Pasco got the win here a season ago.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Hermiston.

CWAC

Thursday’s Game

Selah at Othello

At Huskie Stadium, 7 p.m.

The Vikings are looking for their first win against the Huskies since 2018, and definitely look like a top contender for the conference title.

The picks – Morrow: Othello. Swenning: Selah.

Friday’s Games

East Valley at Toppenish

At Bob Winters Field, 7 p.m.

Both teams are 2-0 and each has beaten 4A Davis. The Red Devils haven’t slowed since graduation took most of their starters.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: East Valley.

Ephrata at Quincy

At Jackrabbit Stadium, 7 p.m.

The Tigers have missed their chance to play spoiler early against Selah and East Valley, and look to get their first win on the road.

The picks – Murrow, Swenning: Ephrata.

Prosser at Grandview

At Rich Leenhouts Stadium. 7 p.m.

The Mustangs shook off a sluggish first half last week to notch a key CWAC victory against Othello and now make the short trip.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Prosser.

Rochester at Ellensburg

At Andreotti Field, 7 p.m.

The visiting 1A Warriors already have knocked off a pair of 2A teams (Bremerton, Washougal). The Bulldogs try to avoid becoming the third victim.

The picks – Murrow, Swenning: Rochester.

SCAC

Friday’s Games

Connell at Kiona-Benton

The picks – Murrow, Swenning: Wahluke.

College Place at Zillah

At Andy Collins Memorial Field, 7 p.m.

The Leopards have shown a balanced offense and stingy defense in their two wins this season. The Hawks snuck past Wapato to even their mark.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Zillah.

Chelan at Cashmere

At Bulldog Stadium, 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs meet their former Caribou Trail League rival looking to get back to their winning ways following a visit to top-ranked Royal.

The picks – Morrow, Swenning: Cashmere.
