TACOMA — The CWAC wrestling footprint dominated the Class 2A mats at the Tacoma Dome, where Toppenish, Othello, Ephrata, Grandview, Quincy, Selah and Prosser piled up hardware at Mat Classic.

Girls: Toppenish runs away with title

Toppenish captured the team title with 273.5 points, finishing more than 50 clear of runner-up Othello (221.5). The Wildcats crowned four individual champions, including Sophia Torrez (105), Adalyne Montiel (110), Sara Ortega (135) and Makayla Torres (170). Each rolled through their brackets, with Montiel earning a technical fall in the finals and Ortega pinning her Orting opponent in under two minutes.

Othello countered with depth across the board, highlighted by Bella Garza (third at 105), Grayce Mendez (second at 110), and Alejandria Espindola (235 champ), who sealed her title with a fall.

Ephrata delivered one of the weekend’s loudest moments when Adylene Sanchez pinned her way to the 155-pound crown, finishing a 41-win season. The Tigers also got a podium finish from Alexandra Estrada Rangel (sixth at 130) and Kallee Rayn Castillo (sixth at 145).

Grandview's Sofia Tovar (third at 190) and Tatiana Tovar (fifth at 190) both medaled, lifting the Greyhounds to ninth in the team standings. Quincy’s Crystal Perez (fifth at 110) and Alondra Cordova (fifth at 125) added hardware for the Jackrabbits. Prosser’s Alexa Carrasco (fifth at 105) and Rebeka Alvarez (fifth at 235) rounded out the CWAC medal haul.

CWAC schools held five of the top 10 team spots — Toppenish (first), Othello (second), Ephrata (seventh), Grandview (ninth), and Quincy (10th).

Boys: Toppenish, Othello, Selah take to podium

On the boys’ side, Orting ran away with the team crown, but CWAC schools made their mark. Toppenish finished runner-up with 317 points, crowned four champs, and loaded the podiums.

•Steve Romero (113) dominated to a title, beating Cash Eylar of Ellensburg in a CWAC-vs-CWAC final via tech fall.

•Isaiah Rios (126) scored a sudden-victory decision in the finals.

•Justyce Zuniga (132) and Kiyanno Zuniga (150) both added championships, the latter over Othello’s Camilo Mendez III in an all-league final.

•Anthony Nava (285) closed the tournament with a 4-1 decision over Othello’s Mason Perez in another CWAC showdown.

Othello left Tacoma with two finalists — Mendez at 150 and Perez at 285 — plus a gold medal courtesy of Anthony Solorio (215), who edged Lakewood’s Jimmy Conklin 9-8 in a thriller. Huskies junior Mason Russell was third at 132.

Selah’s D’Anthony Garcia Reyes (third at 106) and Mario Lamas (fourth at 165) proved the Vikings’ depth, while Prosser’s Julian Joel Torres (sixth at 126) and Logan Myers (eighth at 165) battled into the medals. Grandview’s Michael Flores (sixth at 120) and Dutch Graf (seventh at 150) also added to the CWAC tally. Quincy’s Saidt Alvarez (fifth at 113) grabbed his spot on the podium.

Ellensburg celebrated a finalist with Cash Eylar (113), the sophomore falling only to Romero in a tech fall, further proving the Bulldogs’ bright future.
