Sunnyside squads, Davis girls shine at Mat Classic XXXVI
Grizzly boys continue strong Tacoma showings, Davis and Griz girls in top five

TACOMA — The CBBN's contingent made itself known at Mat Classic XXXVI, with Sunnyside, Davis, and Moses Lake all producing podium placers and state champions on wrestling’s biggest stage.
Boys: Sunnyside surges, Moses Lake places two
Sunnyside rode a wave of finalists to finish fifth in the team standings (111 points).
•At 120 pounds, Samuel Valencia battled his way to the title bout before finishing runner-up, while teammate Zaiden Gonzalez placed eighth.
•Mesiah Valdez added a third-place medal at 126, and Christopher Villanueva was state runner-up at 150.
•Veteran Kael Campos capped his career with a fifth at 165.
Moses Lake finished tied for ninth overall (84.5 points), placing multiple wrestlers.
•Jose Villafana (sixth at 106) and Ian Garza (fifth at 113) helped set the tone in the lower weights.
•Drayden Gaither placed fourth at 138, while Trenton Vasquez earned sixth at 144.
•Upper-weight standout Ricardo Colunga Jr. finished fourth at 215.
Davis’ top performance came at 132, where Jacob Alcala advanced all the way to the finals before settling for a silver medal. Teammate Isai Perez added points with a sixth-place finish at 138.
Eastmont heavyweight Daxton Dickson collected a seventh-place medal at 175, and fellow Wildcat Ricardo Colunga Jr. reached the podium at 215 with a fourth-place effort.
Girls: Davis and Sunnyside headline, Moses Lake places strong
On the girls side, Davis (145 points) and Sunnyside (148.5 points) both cracked the top five in the team race, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Moses Lake wasn’t far behind in seventh (125.5).
•Davis freshman Reinalda Gonzalez delivered a breakout championship at 120 pounds, defeating Richland’s Alexis Allen in the title match.
•Senior Shawnnastasia Jackson capped her career in style, winning the 155-pound state title in a 4-2 thriller over Tahoma’s ZaLane Hulitt.
•The Pirates added depth points with Natallie Pinon (fifth at 125) and Sawyer Newman (fourth at 235).
Sunnyside produced its own champion in Danica Torres at 105, earning a wild 17-12 decision in the finals.
•Kaylia Maltos (third at 100), Zaiden Gonzalez (boys 120, eighth), Isabell Garcia (sixth at 125), Alyssa Graciano (seventh at 130), Nahkila Ray (eighth at 135), Kira Mesa (fourth at 155), and Veronica Sanchez-Rivera (seventh at 145) all added to the Grizzlies’ haul.
Moses Lake’s girls were led by Katelyn Rodriguez, who claimed third place at 235.
•Kayla Gonzalez (sixth at 100), Alana Dickson (fourth at 110), and Kamilah Martinez (eighth at 110) also reached the podium, giving the Mavericks depth across the lineup.
Eisenhower joined the medal parade with Andrea Garcia (eighth at 105) and Edith Benitez (fifth at 140), bolstering the CBBN presence.
