Othello, Royal win big in battles of unbeatens

Defending conference champs again will face unbeaten opponents in Week 5

Two unbeatens were defeated Friday night, falling to defending conference champions.


In the CWAC, seventh-ranked Othello handled Selah 46-13 at home, while 1A No. 1 and five-time defending champion Royal shutout Zillah 43-0 in a SCAC matchup at Andy Collins Memorial Field.


The Huskies and Knights will again face unbeaten opponents next Friday, as Othello hosts No. 6 East Valley and Royal faces second-ranked Cashmere at David Nielsen Memorial Field.

WEST VALLEY 29, DAVIS 26: At Yakima, Drayden Birley rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another scored to lead the Rams (1-0 CBBN, 2-2 overall). Noah Newkirk three for more than 350 yards and four touchdowns for the Pirates (0-2, 1-3).


EASTMONT 35, SUNNYSIDE 28: At Sunnyside, the Wildcats (2-0, 2-1) used long scoring runs from Austin Zelinski and Ethan Akpodiete, and two Bodie Yale touchdown jaunt to overcome Julian Villanueva’s 359 passing yards and four touchdowns for the Grizzlies (0-2, 0-4).


MOSES LAKE 56, WENATCHEE 0: At Moses Lake, the unbeaten and eighth-ranked Mavericks (2-0, 4-0) rolled in a game that was moved to Moses Lake because of the smoky air in the Wenatchee area.

TOPPENISH 27, ELLENSBURG 25: At Ellensburg, Lyle Wapsheli threw for two touchdowns and ran for a pair of scores to lead the Wildcats (3-1 CWAC, 3-1 overall) to the victory. Bryce Martone caught three touchdown passes from Liam Ewen for the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-4).


PROSSER 47, GRANDVIEW 19: At Prosser, Danile Diaz threw for 248 yards and four touchdowns – two of them to Xzander Espino – and the Mustangs (3-1, 3-1) cruised. Nathan Montes de Oca rushed for 192 yards and three TDs for the Greyhounds (0-4, 0-4).


OTHELLO 46, SELAH 13: At Othello, the Huskies (3-0, 4-0) handed the Vikings (2-1, 3-1) their first loss of the season to set up another battle of unbeaten Friday when Othello visits East Valley.


EAST VALLEY 49, EPHRATA 14: At Ephrata, the sixth-ranked Red Devils (3-0, 4-0) rolled past the Tigers (2-2, 2-2) in a game postponed from Friday because of air pollution cause by fires. Braden Albrecht ran for three touchdowns and Jaxon Berg threw touchdowns to four different receivers.

CASHMERE 63, WAHLUKE 0: At Cashmere, the Bulldogs (4-0, 4-0) their fourth shutout Thursday, forcing eight turnovers, and Rylan Hatmaker threw three touchdown passes. The Warriors fell to 1-3 in conference play and overall.


CONNELL 70, COLLEGE PLACE 28: At Connell, after a rugged opening three-game stretch, the Eagles (1-2, 1-3) rolled to their first victory with Hunter VanHollebeke throwing for 293 yards and five touchdowns and running for another two scores. Brandon Fry rushed for two touchdowns for the Hawks (0-3, 0-4).


NACHES VALLEY 28, KIONA-BENTON 24: At Benton City, winless a year ago, the Rangers have won three of their first four games this season. Preston Scrogham returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and Naches Valley (2-1, 3-1) host racked up more than 300 yards on the ground Saturday. Kiona-Benton (0-4, 0-4) remains winless.

LAKE CITY (IDAHO) 49, EISENHOWER 0: At Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, the Cadets (0-1 CBBN, 0-4 overall) were shutout for the third time this season.


QUINCY 35, WAPATO 14: At Wapato, the Jackrabbits (0-3 CWAC, 1-3 overall) hit the road for their first victory of the season. The Wolves (1-2 SCAC, 1-3 overall) visits College Place on Friday.
