It was a big Week 4 for several football teams in the Stat Hound footprint. Here’s a look back at some of the biggest accomplishments this past week.
0 – Bulldog brick wall
Second-ranked Cashmere put up its fourth shutout in as many games Thursday against Wahluke.
The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 251-0.
This week brings the stiffest test of the season for Cashmere with a visit to top-ranked Royal. The Knights scored 99 points in two games against the Bulldogs last fall en route to their fifth straight Class 1A state championship.
1 – A first for a star
Cashmere defensive lineman Prin Fox already has built a healthy resume. The UNLV-bound senior was a first-team all-state and all-SCAC last year, and anchors the Bulldogs’ stingy defense (see above).
Thursday, though, the 6-foot-2, 270-pounder did something he hadn’t done yet – score a touchdown. Fox recovered a fumble in the end zone during Cashmere’s 63-0 victory against Wahluke.
11 – Early TD leader
East Valley running back Braden Albrecht leads the three Stat Hound conferences with 11 touchdowns. The senior has scored multiple touchdowns in each of the Red Devils four games with a trio of rushing scores in the three of the games, and a pair of TD receptions against Prosser two games ago.
Royal’s Shea Stevenson is one touchdown behind Albrecht after catching four scoring passes Friday against Zillah.
Moses Lake’s Grant Smith leads the CBBN with nine touchdowns, all of them receiving.
100 – Going the distance
Although Selah suffered its first loss of the season Friday at Othello, junior Calen Wuitschick again had a strong game. Besides recording his fifth rushing touchdown of the season, he also intercepted a pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards, giving him eight touchdowns this season.
300 – Ground swell
Eastmont and Naches Valley gained more than 300 yards on the ground this past weekend.
The Wildcats racked up 370 rushing yards fending off Sunnyside on the road. Austin Zelinski led the way with 150 yards, including a 79-yard scoring jaunt, and Ethan Akpodiete added 126 with TD runs of 85 and 30 yards, respectively.
Bodie Yale added scoring runs of 5 and 11 yards, and had 83 yards.
The Rangers totaled 319 yards against Kiona-Benton with running back Miguel Gaut (124) and quarterback Dayne Brownlow (102) eclipsing the 100-yard mark.
355 – Another big day for Jay
Star quarterback Brady threw for 355 yards and six touchdowns in the Mavericks’ victory against Wenatchee, which was moved from the Apple Bowl to Lions Field in Moses Lake because of air pollution caused by the two wildfires in Chelan County.
The Montana-bound QB also ran for a season-high 81 yards and another score.
Connell’s Hunter Vanhollebeke had a massive game of his own, throwing for 293 yards and five touchdowns, and ran for 44 yards and two touchdowns.
And a bonus for the Eagles – the big numbers came in their first victory of the season, a 70-28 handling of College Place.
655 – Greyhounds’ top dog
Grandview is still looking for its first win, but Nathan Montes de Oca has done plenty this season.
The senior running back has rushed for 655 yards and six touchdowns this season. After being held to 76 yards by East Valley, he ran for 210 yards against Othello and 192 against Prosser.
