Selah soccer tops EV, sits alone atop the CWAC

Vikings score three unanswered goals to beat the Red Devils

SELAH – The Selah girls soccer team surged into sole possession of first place in the CWAC Tuesday night with a 3-1 home win over previously undefeated East Valley.


The Red Devils took the lead midway through the first half on a goal from senior captain Ariana Lopez, her 21st of the season. Selah evened the scored three minutes before halftime on a hustle play by Sophie Blodgett and went up 2-1 in the 63rd minute when her sister, Elayna, found a seam in the penalty box and buried the ball in the lower left corner.


Elayna Blodgett put the finishing touches on the Vikings' victory with a penalty kick in the 78th minute, helping her team improve to 3-0 in conference play (5-3 overall). The Red Devils suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 2-1 in the CWAC (7-1-1 overall).


Selah will travel to Othello on Thursday and East Valley hosts Cle Elum in a nonleague matchup.


GRANDVIEW 2, PROSSER 1 (SO): At Grandview, the Greyhounds (1-1) won the shootout 3-0 for the victory.


QUINCY 1, EPHRATA 0: At Quincy, the Jackrabbits (2-1) moved into a three-way tie for second place in the conference with the victory.


OTHELLO 3, TOPPENISH 1: At Toppenish, Autumn Weyns, Mya Rivera and Bella Garza netted goals for the Huskies (1-2), who earned their first conference victory.

SUNNYSIDE 1, WEST VALLEY 0: At Sunnyside, the Grizzlies (1-4) ended a four-game slide while shutting out the Rams (2-3).


EISENHOWER 2, MOSES LAKE 1: At Yakima, the Cadets (3-3) shook off two losses in a row in topping the Mavericks (3-2).

NACHES VALLEY 5, ZILLAH 0: At Naches, the Rangers (5-1-1 SCAC) won for the third time in the last four matches by beating the Leopards.


WAHLUKE 9, KIONA-BENTON 0: At Benton City, the Warriors (4-3) posted a season-high for goals with the road victory against the Bears (0-7)


CONNELL 1, WAPATO 0: At Connell, the Eagles (2-5) won for the second time in three matches, and are now tied with the Wolves (2-5) in the standings.


ROYAL 1, COLLEGE PLACE 0: At College Place, the Knights (5-1-1) won for the fourth straight game, while the Hawks (2-5) fell for the fourth straight game.

WENATCHEE 3, EASTMONT 0: At Wenatchee, the Panthers (5-0) continued their march toward a third straight unbeaten run in the conference by beating the Wildcats (2-4).


WEST VALLEY 3, SUNNYSIDE 0: At Yakima, the Rams (4-1) won for the fourth straight time, to remain a game behind the Panthers. The Grizzlies (0-5) are still looking for the first conference win of the season.


MOSES LAKE 3, EISENHOWER 1: At Moses Lake, the Mavericks (2-3) ended a three-match losing streak, while handling the Cadets (2-4).


DAVIS 3, PROSSER 1: At Yakima, the Pirates won the nonleague matchup 25-18, 23-25, 25-12, 25-19).

ELLENSBURG 3, OTHELLO 0: At Ellensburg, the fourth-ranked Bulldogs moved to 2-0 in conference play with the 25-8, 25-23, 25-9 victory.


SELAH 3, TOPPENISH 0: At Selah, the seventh-ranked Vikings (2-0) kept pace early on in the conference with the sweep.


EAST VALLEY 3, EPHRATA 1: At Ephrata, the Red Devils (1-1) earned the conference victory 25-17, 25-27, 25-18, 25-20.


GRANDVIEW 3, QUINCY 0: At Grandview, the Greyhounds (2-0) swept past the Jackrabbits (0-2) to remain tied atop the conference standings.

ZILLAH 3, NACHES VALLEY 0: At Naches Valley, the eighth-ranked Leopards (6-1) posted the sweep of the Rangers (2-5), and are a game behind Cashmere, which was idle Tuesday night.

WAHLUKE 3, KIONA-BENTON 2: At Benton City, the Warriors (2-5) outlasted the Bears  (0-7) to win their second conference match in a row.


CONNELL 3, WAPATO 0: At Connell, the Eagles (4-3) moved into a tie with the Wolves.


COLLEGE PLACE 3, ROYAL 0: At College Place, the Hawks (4-4) have won three straight matches 

with the victory against the Knights (3-4).
