Midway through the 2025 fall campaign, and the East Valley football team finds itself atop the CWAC standings and the WIAA’s rating percentage index (RPI).

The Red Devils are coming off a runaway victory against defending conference champion Othello, in which they scored 33 points in the second quarter en route to a 36-13 victory to improve to 5-0. They also held off Prosser in a Week 3 matchup.

Can East Valley remain atop the poll? Well, since it’s a formula heavy on who you play, it’s hard to say. The equation weighs the team’s inning percentage (40%), its opponents winning percentage (40%) and that of the opponents’ opponents (20%).

Other than Selah, 14th in the poll, the Red Devils’ schedule doesn’t feature any teams higher than 32nd.

EV is on track for its first conference championship since 2004 and eanring its first playoff berth since 2006.

Since it's so dependent on the team's competition, it often ranks teams who haven't played a tough schedule very high depite their record. It's doubtful anybody believes that Cashmere is just the 15th best 1A football team.

The RPI is one of several factors considered when teams are seeded for state playoffs and tournaments.
