PROSSER – What figured to be a nonleague showdown between a Class 1A power and 2A perennial contender turned into a Royal runaway.

Knights senior receiver Shea Stevenson caught two touchdown passes from junior left-hander Grant Wardenaar and Brady Bishop caught a scoring pass and ran for another TD to lead Royal to a 50-3 victory Thursday night at Art Fiker Stadium.

After the Mustangs took a 3-0 lead on Chet Mercer’s 33-yard field goal, Royal's Dax Jenks scored on a 1-yard run as the first quarter expired. The Wardenaar-to-Stevenson combo then hooked for two scores before halftime.

Stevenson, who entered the game leading the SCAC with 10 touchdowns, scored on 13- and 36-yard passes from Wardenaar.

Prosser’s hope for a comeback took a big shot early in the second half when Anderson Brown intercepted a Daniel Diaz pass and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown.

Bishop then scored back-to-back touchdowns, the first 14-yard TD reception and the second a 1-yard run.

Backup quarterback Manny Ruvalcaba capped the onslaught with a 33-yard scoring run.

The Knights improved to 6-0 overall and return to SCAC action next Friday against Wahluke. With victories against second-ranked Cashmere and Zillah, Royal looks destined for another conference title.

Prosser (4-2) hosts Othello next Friday in a matchup that will likely decide second place in the CWAC.
