YAKIMA — Top-seeded East Valley earned a state berth and a spot in the CWAC district championship game on Saturday with a 2-0 win over No. 7 Prosser at Earl Barden Sr. Field.

After a scoreless first 40 minutes, the Red Devils broke through just 20 seconds into the second half when senior Ariana Lopez took a pass from Natalie Mendoza inside the penalty box and buried the ball in the lower right corner.

Lopez struck again in the 52nd minute when her corner kick glanced off the crossbar and went right to junior Allison Fries, who put the ball away to give the Red Devils a two-goal advantage.

East Valley has now won nine in a row overall and improved to 16-1-1 heading into Tuesday's district title game against Ellensburg, which earned a 2-1 overtime win over Selah.

ELLENSBURG 2, SELAH 1 (OT): At Selah, freshman Brea Potucek scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Saturday, sending the No. 5 Bulldogs past the No. 2 Vikings in the CWAC district semifinals.

Senior Molly Moffat put Ellensburg ahead 1-0 in the 25th minute on a pass from Brynlee Anderson, but Selah responded seconds later on a goal by Elayna Blodgett.

The teams played a scoreless second half before Faith Rector delivered a through-ball to Potucek, who notched a golden goal in the 84th minute to send the Bulldogs through to Tuesday's district championship game. The win also gave Ellensburg its second consecutive Class 2A state tournament berth.

"From the start of the season, I told the girls that if we were fully invested in one another, we could make it back to state," first-year head coach David Flores said. "With only two seniors and three freshmen starters, it's kind of a rebuilding year for us. But everyone has played with a passion and a

hunger that has helped us take really big strides as a program."

The Bulldogs (10-7 overall) will face East Valley at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Toppenish High School. Selah (10-6) will host Prosser at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Karl Graf Field for a chance to host a winner-to-state crossover next Saturday.
