The formula for the area teams playing in state-qualifying contests was a simple one – if you were at home, you won. If you were on the road, you did not.
Higher seeds from the CBBN, CWAC and SCAC advanced to the state playoffs, with Moses Lake, East Valley, Othello and Cashmere on Saturday joining Prosser and Royal, which won Friday night.
The playoff brackets will be revealed Sunday as this weekend’s winners are reseeded.
Royal and Cashmere, seeded No. 1 and 2 in this week’s pairings, could receive byes into the quarterfinals as the 1A bracket is just 12 teams and the top four teams do not play next weekend.
Here’s a breakdown of Saturday’s action.
CLASS 4A

Moses Lake took advantage of a pair of turnovers for short scoring drives.
Just before halftime and ahead by a touchdown, the Mavericks recovered a fumble on the 2-yard line and Jay made the Eagles pay, hitting Carter Anderson for a short scoring pass.
Late in the fourth and again leading by one score, Moses Lake’s Theo Kalasountas intercepted a pass at the Issaquah 27.
Jay then connected with Grant Smith for a touchdown to help seal the victory. It was the second touchdown catch for Smith.
