Davis bounces back, returns to state tourney
Pirates earn second straight 4A berth after falling to Wenatchee

WENATCHEE – A season ago, the Davis volleyball team advanced to the state tournament for the first time in 27 years.
Now, the Pirates are making it a habit.
Davis outlasted West Valley 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19 to secure their second straight berth to the Class 4A state volleyball tournament Nov. 21-22 in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Paige Gasseling led the Pirates (13-5) with 22 kills and 11 blocks, Cheyenne Hull had 11 kills and 21 digs, and Isa Garcia guided the offense with 27 assists and 25 digs. Sophia James-Teeias and Joslyn Standley added 20 and 16 digs.
Wenatchee (15-1) held off Davis 25-20, 25-23, 25-23 earlier in the day to wrap up another district championship. The Panthers went undefeated through conference play for the third straight year in winning their fifth consecutive title.
Hull had eight kills and 28 digs against Wenatchee, and Garcia added 16 assists, seven kills and 16 digs.
West Valley (8-7) defeated Eisenhower (7-10) 3-1 in a loser-out match to earn a spot in the winner-to-state contest against the Pirates.
The brackets for the state tournament will be unveiled Sunday.
