A year ago, Wilbur-Creston-Keller pulled off the stunner – unseating Oakesdale atop Class 1B volleyball, ending the Nighthawks three-year reign.

This year, Oakesdale has returned to its usual spot as the top seed and favorite in the tournament which begins Wednesday morning in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

The Nighthawks entered the tournament unbeaten and had topped the Wildcats twice in four sets leading up to the championship match, but WCK had taken a set off an Oakesdale squad that was void of seniors.

This season, Oakesdale comes in after losing to third-seeded Garfield-Palouse in the district championship match.

Neah Bay, which lost to the Nighthawks early in the season, is seeded second.

The 2B is a little less defined. Rainier is the top seed and No. 1 in the RPI, but fourth in the latest coaches poll.

Freeman, third place a year ago, is No. 1 in the coaches poll and fourth in the RPI, and drew the second seed.

The Scotties only losses this season were to Gonzaga Prep and Mead of the Greater Spokane League.
