YAKIMA – CWAC regular-season and district champion East Valley advanced to the Class 2A quarterfinals on a penalty kick by Ariana Lopez in the final minute of regulation for a 2-1 victory against Steilacoom at Earl Barden Sr. Field.

Red Devils senior goalkeeper Kate Ketcham made a key save late in the second half to keep the game tied at 1-1 before Lopez was brought down in the penalty box. The CWAC Player of the Year calmly finished off her 36th goal of the season and second of the game, helping No. 8 seed EV improve to 18-1-1.

The Red Devils will face No. 1 seed and defending champ Columbia River on the road Saturday.
