YAKIMA – Eighth-seeded Northwest Christian shook up the Class 2B state volleyball tournament Wednesday night, knocking off top-seeded Rainier in a five-set quarterfinal.
The Crusaders won 26-28, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12.
Northwest Christian will meet fifth-seeded Lind-Ritzville-Sprague in Thursday morning’s semifinals.
The Broncos topped No. 4 Toutle Lake in a four-set quarterfinal.
Second-seeded Freeman swept its two matches to advance to the other semifinal, where the Scotties will meet two-time defending champion Manson.
The sixth-seeded Trojans also won in straight sets.
In the 1B tournament, it was seventh-seeded Almira-Coulee-Hartline that played spoiler, upsetting No. 2 Neah Bay in a five-set quarterfinal. The Warriors will meet third-seeded Garfield-Palouse in Thursday morning’s semifinal.
The other semifinal includes top-seeded Oakesdale, which avenged its championship loss to Wilbur-Creston-Keller with a five-set victory, and No. 4 Fellowship Christian, which swept its two matches.
