YAKIMA – Eighth-seeded Northwest Christian became the lowest-seeded team to win the Class 2B state championship, stunning No. 2 Freeman in four sets Thursday night in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

The Crusaders won the title match 25-22, 19-25, 29-27, 25-13, cruising in the decisive set for the program’s first state champions and eighth trophy.

Northwest Christian already had knocked off top-seeded Rainier in Wednesday's quarterfinals.

The Scotties, who were playing for their third championship, had swept their way to the title match.

In the 1B final, third-seeded Garfield-Palouse won its third state championship, sweeping Fellowship Christian 26-24, 25-18, 25-21.

The Vikings scored the final 11 points of the second set and closed the third set on a 15-6 run to close out the victory against the Eagles, who were in the title match for the first time in the program’s history.
