YAKIMA – Five-time Class 1A defending state champion and tournament top-seed Chelan advanced to the state semifinals Friday night at the Yakima Valley SunDome. 

The Goats swept Bear Creek in the first round and Kalama in the quarterfinals.

Fifth-seeded Cashmere awaits Chelan in the semis. The Bulldogs swept Omak to start the day, and then outlasted No. 4 Lynden Christian in five sets.

The other side of the bracket had a couple five-set upsets, with No. 7 Meridian edging second-seeded Cedar Park Christian and sixth-seeded La Center topping No. 3 Cascade Christian.

The 1A semifinals are set for 9 a.m. Saturday.

In the 2A semifinals, No. 2 Columbia River and third-seeded Ellensburg will meet in a rematch of last fall's championship match.

The other semifinal is an all-Northwest Conference affair with No. 1 Lynden taking on fifth-seeded Sehome.
