The Wapato boys and Toppenish girls, who captured state team championships last winter in Class 1A and 2A, respectively, at Mat Classic XXXVI, sit atop the Washington Wrestling Network rankings released Thursday.

Royal’s girls, who were the runners-up in 1A/2B/1B girls in February, are No. 1 in the WWN poll.

Toppenish’s powerful boys are No. 2, behind defending state champions Orting. Zillah’s boys and Othello’s girls also are ranked second.

The CBBN, CWAC and SCAC are well represented in the polls with 16 teams between the conferences.

Here’s a breakdown of where the teams from those conferences rank with their state finish last season in parentheses:

Class 4A boys: 10. Sunnyside (5)

Class 4A girls: 2. Sunnyside (4), 4. Moses Lake (7), 8. Davis (5)

Class 2A boys: 2. Toppenish (2), 4. Othello (3)

Class 2A girls: 1. Toppenish (1), 2. Othello (2), 9. Grandview (9)

Class 1A boys: 1. Wapato (1), 2. Zillah (2), 3. Cashmere (5)

Class 1A/2B/1A Girls: 1. Royal (2), 2. Zillah (3), 6. Wapato (11), 8. Cashmere (11)
