YAKIMA – The state volleyball tournaments concluded Saturday night with a pair of first-time champions.
Second-seeded Lake Stevens rallied from two sets down to beat No. 1 Curtis 16-22, 22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-7 to win the Class 4A championship.
Twice the runner-up, the Wesco champs wouldn’t be denied this year with reigning Washington Player of the Year Laura Eichert, who capped the championship comeback with a sizzling spike.
Curtis was looking to be the first 4A team to repeat since Auburn Riverside went back-to-back in 2016 and ’17.
Top-seeded North Thurston, which fell to Ridgeline in last year’s championship match, won the 3A title by sweeping No. 2 Mt. Spokane 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.
Each set was tight, but the Rams used a closing kick to wrap up the victory.
Also in 4A, CBBN champion Wenatchee rebounded from a four-set semifinal loss to Curtis by sweeping Gonzaga Prep to repeat its third-place finish.
That’s three straight top-three finishes for the Panthers, who won the 2023 championship.
