WENATCHEE — Cashmere continued its march toward a rematch with top-seeded Royal, rolling past No. 3 seed Mount Baker 41-14 in Saturday's Class 1A semifinals at the Apple Bowl.
The No. 2-seed Bulldogs, who lost an overtime thriller to the Knights in early October, took a 20-7 lead into halftime and added the first points of the second half to book a spot in next week's state championship game at Husky Stadium.
It's Cashmere's first appearance in the championship game since winning the 1A title in 2008.
Senior quarterback Rylan Hatmaker finished 18-of-25 passing with 276 yards and three touchdowns — two to Logan Spies, who racked up 177 receiving yards. Jayce McMahon led the rushing attack with 53 yards and a touchdown on five carries, while Jacoby Tait totaled 44 yards on six attempts.
Isaac Zavala hauled in a 45-yard TD reception in the first half, Thomas Bergren added a two-yard scoring run, and Jackson Binger delivered a 52-yard pick-six to help the Bulldogs improve to 11-1 overall.
Cashmere's defense held Mount Baker to just 11 passing yards and allowed 277 yards on the ground, including 218 yards and two long touchdown runs by Brice Cooper. As Bulldogs coach Brian Bremer noted, half of the Mountaineers' total offensive production came on Cooper's TD bursts of 66 and 80 yards.
Cashmere and Royal will resume their rivalry at 3 p.m. Friday in Seattle.
