The sequel is about here.

Second-seeded Cashmere and No. 1 Royal, fast rivals after the Bulldogs joined the SCAC in 2024, are about to meet again, two months and two days after an overtime thriller that had many in attendance at David Nielsen Memorial Field wanting them to run it back.

As the teams put in the final wrinkles for the Class 1A state championship slated for 3 p.m. Friday at Husky Stadium, here are a handful of statistics to tide fans over until the game.

0 – How many points Cashmere and Royal gave up in six of their games this year. The Bulldogs didn’t give up a point until Week 5 – the aforementioned 21-15 OT loss to the Knights. Royal’s output was the most against the Bulldogs this season.

1 – Combined losses. Again, someone had to lose the matchup between the two, although neither did anything to deserve an L.

2 – Number of state championships for Cashmere. The Bulldogs won the A/1A title in 1984 and 2008, the last time they played in the championship.

5 – Consecutive state championships for the Knights.

11 – The state-record number of punt returns for touchdown Cashmere senior Isaac Zavala has in his career. The Bulldogs have 11 return touchdowns this season, along with two defensive scores. Royal has a pair of return TDs this fall, and nine by the defense.

13 – State championships won by Royal. Although there were no playoffs after the spring 2020 season, the Knights claim the title, and it’s hard to argue against them, as they went 5-0 and outscored Eastmont, Ephrata, Wenatchee, Wahluke and Moses Lake 320-32.

20 – Touchdowns by Royal receiver/defensive back Shea Stevenson. The SCAC Offensive MVP has the most of either team, and six players – Stevenson, Dax Jenks (18), Zavala (18), Logan Spies (16), Brody Bishop (13) and Anderson Brown (13) – have more than a dozen championships.

21 – Consecutive postseason wins by the Knights. Colville, in a 2018 semifinal, was the last team knock off Royal in the playoffs.

47 – Consecutive wins by the Knights. They also won 53 straight from 2015-18.

737 – Rushing yards on just 70 carries for Jenks. He went for 226 and five touchdowns on 22 carries in Saturday’s semifinal win against Lynden Chhistian.

931 – Receiving yards on 52 receptions for Cashmere’s Logan Spies. He also enjoyed a big semifinal, hauling in seven passes for 177 yards and two scores.

2,429 – Passing yards for Royal junior quarterback Grant Wardenaar, to go along with 39 touchdowns and two interceptions. Cashmere senior Rylan Hatmaker has been quite impressive, too, with 2,333 yards with 37 TDs and six picks.
