Sanchez hits milestone, Rams sweep in Spokane
Sunnyside junior gets 1,000th point, West Valley boys off to 3-0 start

West Valley’s boys basketball team, ranked fourth in Class 4A in VarsityWA’s debut, completed a two-game sweep in Spokane on Saturday, winning 93-69 at Lewis and Clark.
The victory follows Friday’s 87-84 edging of Mead on Friday.
Sophomore Austin Birley scored a game-high 25 points on Saturday to follow a career-high 35 the night before against the Panthers.
WV freshman Jrayden Whitfield added 19 points Saturday, while Parker Mills chipped in 18 and Jett Bremerman 16.
On Friday, Bremerman and Mills each had 15.
The Rams (3-0) are off until Friday when they will host Eastmont to open conference play.
Sunnyside junior Aiden Sanchez reached the 1,000-point mark for his career, scoring a game-high 31 points to lead the Grizzlies to a 55-50 victory Friday night at Hermiston.
Eisenhower coach Taylor Elmo recorded his first victory Friday when the Cadets defeated visiting East Valley 72-60 with Jacob Gonzalez scoring 31 points and Lucas Stevens adding 19.
Class 1A No. 1 Zillah topped Grandview 80-70 on Friday with Dekker Van De Graaf scoring 22 points and three other Leopards in double figures.
Deontae Howard had a game-high 24 for the Greyhounds.
On the girls side, Leopards coach Joel Yellow Owl got his first win, with his team topping Grandview 63-47 behind the 22 points
Wapato’s boys and girls are off to unbeaten starts.
Sophomores Brook Alvarado and Jordynn Bobb each scored 19 points to lead the Wolves (2-0) to a 75-20 victory Saturday against Wahluke to open SCAC play.
Wapato’s boys (3-0) beat the Warriors 62-53.
Naches Valley’s teams also are off to 2-0 starts.
Dayne Brownlow had 24 and 21 points in the boys’ victories, while Mia Staggs scored 29 and 13 for the girls.
