Royal boys basketball tops 1A in Evans Rankings
CBBN, CWAC, SCAC well-represented in computer poll's season debut

Royal hasn’t slowed since capturing its sixth straight Class 1A state football championship, rolling to a 4-0 record on the basketball court.
The Knights boys, led by left-handed Grant Wardenaar – the quarterback on the championship football team – and his 33.5 points per game, are No. 1 in the Evans Rankings’ 1A computer rankings.
SCAC rival Zillah is third. The Knights and Leopards wrap up the holiday break with their first meeting of the season Jan. 3 at Zillah Middle School.
Wapato is eighth in the rankings.
In 4A, defending state champion Davis is No. 2 behind Chiawana. The Pirates (4-0) are set to play in the loaded POA Holiday Classic this coming weekend in Portland.
West Valley’s unbeaten boys are eighth.
Selah at No. 8 is the highest ranked CWAC boys team, while the conference is well represented in the girls rankings.
Unbeaten Selah is third, Prosser eighth and Grandview right behind the Mustangs. Ellensburg is 23rd.
The SCAC also is flexing its muscle with Wapato second, Zillah third, Cashmere fifth and Royal 11th.
Evans Rankings is a computer ranking devised by Kennewick’s Matt Evans. He has been using his formula to rank teams for more than a decade.
