East Valley do-it-all football standout Cody Gasseling is headed to Eastern Washington.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound first-team all-CWAC H-back and linebacker committed Friday to play for the Eagles after being offered a scholarship by the Big Sky school earlier this month.

Gasseling committed as a tight end, but if this fall was any indication, he could make an impact all over the field.

Helping the Red Devils win their first 12 games en route to their first CWAC championship and Class 2A semifinal berth since 2004, Gasseling totaled more than 1,300 yards of offense and scored 19 touchdowns.

Gasseling rushed for 795 yards and 111 scores in tandem with all-league tailback and 1,000-yard rusher Braden Albrecht.

When Albrecht suffered a hip injury and was sidelined for East Valley’s first-round playoff victory against Burlington-Edison, Gasseling rushed for 153 yards and a pair of TDs.

He followed that with another 132 yards and two scores against Lynden in the quarterfinals.

Gasseling also was the Red Devils’ second leading receiver behind all-state selection and Montana State signee Greyson Stevens with 31 receptions for 540 yards and eight touchdowns.

On defense, Gasseling totaled 48 tackles – eight of them for a loss of yards.

Gasseling likely will sign his National Letter of Inten the first Wednesday of February.

Defensive lineman Zeliah Wade, the CWAC Defensive MVP, also was offered a scholarship by EWU but has yet to commit.
