The SunDome Shootout wrapped up Tuesday with more stellar performances and white-knuckle endings.
A week after moving up to the third in the VarsityWA Class 4A boys rankings, West Valley dropped a pair of games to fellow top-10 programs – unbeatens Chiawana at home and Glacier Peak on the first day of the SunDome Shootout.
Tuesday night, the Rams exorcised their recent struggles by beating Lake Stevens 70=44 in one of the last pair of games at the Shootout.
Parker Mills posted a game-best 19 points to lead a quartet of double-figure West Valley scorers.
Parker Hill had 15, Jrayden Whitfield added 11 and Austin Birley.
The Rams continue their rugged nonleague schedule Friday when they host former Mid-Valley League rival Selah. The Vikings, ranked fifth in 2A, beat Ridgefield and Lynden in the SunDome to remain unbeaten.
In one of the first games Tuesday, Quincy’s Pierce Bierlink scorched the SunDome nets for 52 points in a 64-63 victory against LaCenter.
The reigning CWAC scoring champ is again leading the conference putting up more than 30 points per game, and set the program’s career scoring record earlier this season.
Other highlights Tuesday:
Jameson McMann scored 31 points and Ridgefield bounced back from a loss to Selah with a 54-51 victory against Eisenhower.
Wapato’s ninth-ranked boys beat No. 7 Fort Vancouver 60-57 in a matchup of which the RPI computers will take notice. T Fiander led the Wolves with 17 points, AJ Garza had 15 and Jacob Bobb 15.
Lyle Wapsheli and Alex Bazan each scored 17 points and Toppenish won its third straight to improve to 6-2. The Wildcats look like a contender in a wide-open CWAC after Selah.
Grandview’s 1-2 punch of Frankie Medina and Braden Santos scored 30 and 23 points, respectively, and the Greyhounds beat Bainbridge 67-57 in a matchup of 2A state hopefuls.
Class 4A No. 3 Glacier Peak made it a SunDome sweep of CBBN foes by racing past Davis 70-38. Eddie Kan had 19 for the Grizzlies, and Reed Nagel and Paulos Mulugeta each had 17 points.
Unbeaten and top-ranked Zillah pulled away from No. 6 Cascade Christian in another key 1A matchup. Memphis Jones led the Leopards with 17, Jayden Saenz had 16, Budda Aranda 14 and two-time SCAC Player of the Year Dekker Van De Graaf continued to work his way back into the lineup and chipped in a dozen points.
Selah's fifth-ranked girls bounced back from their first loss of the season by beating West Valley 54-47 with Makenna Pepper scoring 19 points.
