The Zillah girls basketball team – coming off a SunDome Shootout in which it ended Deer Park’s 68-game regular-season winning streak, and a win Saturday against SCAC rival Royal – moved to No. 1 in the VarsityWA Class 1A rankings released Monday.
Lynden Christian held down the top spot last week before falling to Napavine, ranked No. 2 in 2B.
Wapato’s girls are fifth, while the Knights remained ninth.
The Leopards join the boys team, which has been No. 1 since the first poll, atop the state rankings.
Davis’ girls (7-2) remain No. 1 in 4A after going 2-2 at the POA Holiday Classic in Portland, finishing third in the Platinum Division of the 64-team event.
Eastern Washington-signee Deets Parrish is nearing a return from injury to bolster the defending champion’s lineup.
The CWAC continues to have four teams in the 2A girls top 10. Prosser (8-2) is third, Selah (9-2) fifth, Ellensburg (8-3) seventh and Grandview ninth (10-2).
It will be a busy week of games involving top-10 teams.
Prosser hosts Selah on Tuesday, before visiting Grandview on Friday. The Vikings then host Ellensburg on Friday and Grandview on Saturday.
The Greyhounds also welcome the Mustangs on Friday.
West Valley’s boys (7-2) are seventh after rebounding from back-to-back losses by handing 2A No. 3 Selah its first loss.
The Vikings (9-1) remained third in the poll, and were joined by Grandview (8-4) at 10th.
Royal’s boys (7-1) are fifth in 1A, with Wapato (7-2) ninth.
