Conference front-runners Prosser and Zillah follow Pirates at the top

With the state tournaments less than seven weeks away and the nonleague schedules all but wrapped up, Stat Hound decided to throw all classifications together and deliver a top 10 for the teams from the CBBN, CWAC and SCAC.

Intended to recognize the accomplishments of the teams while stirring a little debate, here is what the inaugural rankings look like.

Have your own take on an  all-classes top 10? Feel free to send your rankings to scores@stathoundmedia.com.

1. Davis: The defending Class 4A champions returned to CBBN play with a commanding performance against Eastmont. The Pirates toughest matchup the rest of the regular season could be the recently added home game against 1A No. 1 Zillah.

2. Prosser: The Mustangs responded to the first CWAC loss to Selah with three dominating victories, showing that the Jan. 6 contest was probably more of a hiccup than any sort of a trend for the conference front-runners.

3. Zillah: The Leopards’ lineup looks complete with the additions of transfers June Fiander and Jada Ramirez. With Saturday’s convincing victory at Wapato to follow the SunDome Shootout win against Deer Park, Zillah solidified its spot atop the SCAC and the 1A polls.

4. Grandview: The Greyhounds already boasted a backcourt trio -- Jennalynn Garza, Miya Lopez and Leyla Rodriguez – as good as anybody’s in the conference. With Angel Torres putting up big numbers in the post, they’re rolling.

5. Selah: The Vikings handed Prosser its only conference loss of the season, but stumbled in the two games following the victory. Selah will need to sustain success if it’s to nab one of the conference’s two state berths.

6. Ellensburg: After back-to-back losses in mid-December, the Bulldogs’ grip on the CWAC looked gone, but they’ve responded with six straight conference victories by an average of 28.5 points, while holding four opponents to 20 points or less.

7. Wapato: Transfer Callie Strong joined the Wolves lineup for the second half of the conference schedule, which should help carry them to the 1A state tournament

8. Royal: Moses Lake transfer Graycie Kast will help take some of the scoring load from freshman Lauren Wardenaar as the Knights look like they could return to the state tournament for the first time since 2001.

9. West Valley: The Rams took their lumps early, but with sophomore Sloane Kneisler near the top of the conference in scoring and 3-pointers, they could be the team to emerge and secure the CBBN’s second berth to the regional round of state.

10. Toppenish: In any other year, the Wildcats would be a top challenger for a trip to state, but in a top-heavy CWAC with limited berths, the Wildcats look to play spoiler while clawing their way into contention.
