West Valley sophomore basketball standout Austin Birley and Toppenish three-time state champion wrestler Adalyne Montiel on Thursday were named WIAA Athletes of the Week.

Birley’s triple double Saturday led to a victory over Moses Lake for the Rams, who are ranked seventh in Class 4A after finishing fifth at last year’s state tournament. He recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the 90-62 victory against the Mavericks.

He leads West Valley and is third in the CBBN at 21.73 points per game.

Montiel, one of four state champions for the Wildcats program which has won four state crowns in a row, is unbeaten this season and has won titles at Gut Check, Lioness Invite, Winter Cup and Hammerhead.
