Regular-season titles on the line this weekend

Selah boys win CWAC, Zillah's teams wrap up SCAC with sweep

It was a weekend for conference championships.

On Friday night, the third-ranked Selah boys locked up the CWAC conference championship Friday  night with an 85-65 victory against Othello.

Junior Oliver Pepper scored 31 points, and the Vikings improved to 14-0 in the CWAC and 17-2 overall. Selah hosts Prosser on Tuesday before heading to Ellensburg next Friday in search of a perfect conference record.

BOYS STANDINGS/GIRLS STANDINGS

The Vikings last finished unbeaten in the 2017-18 season when they finished 18-0 in the 10-team conference. Selah also finished with an unblemished record in 2021, when the abbreviated season was moved to the spring because of the pandemic.

Saturday, Zillah's boys and girls, ranked No. 1 in the VarsityWA and atop the WIAA's RPI, wrapped  up the regular-season titles Saturday by sweeping College Place.

SCAC leading scorer Makenna Klitzke scored a game-best 29 points, Angelina Buck had 17 and Bella Valadez added 16 and the Leopards girls rolled past the Hawks 80-35.

Zillah's boys cruised, too, beating College Place 95-52. Two-time SCAC Player of the Year Dekker Van De Graaf scored 21 points to lead four Leopards in double figures.

Memphis Jones had 19 points, Jayden Saenz 16 and X Castilleja 10.

Zillah caps the regular season  Tuesday by hosting Wapato.

The district tournament starts Feb. 10 for the boys and Feb. 12 for the girls.

Prosser's girls have a one-game lead over Selah atop the CWAC girls standings, and visit the Vikings  on Tuesday. Selah beat the Mustangs earlier this month, closing the game on a 12-0 run.

Davis girls and West Valley boys continued their marches toward a 12-0 record in the CBBN.

The defending Class 4A state champion and top-ranked Pirates handled West Valley 75-22, with Cheyenne Hull scoring 20 points. Isa Garcia -- who eclipsed 1,000 points for her career -- had 13 points, Averie Brandt 12 and Kobe Johnson 11.

Davis earned at least a share of the conference title, and can win the title outright Thursday when Moses Lake visits.

The Rams made it a season sweep of Davis, with star sophomore Austin Birley scoring a game-high 31 points, and the Parkers -- Hill and Mills -- going for 23 and 21. West Valley can wrap up the league outright Friday when it heads to Sunnyside.

One milestone was reached Friday as Eisenhower's Lucas Stevens hit the 1,000-point mark for his career in a loss to Sunnyside.

On Saturday, Graycie Kast scored a career-high 27 points for Royal, which won its fourth straight game to stay on the heels of Wapato for second place in the SCAC.
