WAPATO – Third-ranked Zillah gained a measure of revenge Saturday, beating No. 1 and host Wapato in the title match of the Class 1A-B Dual Championship match two days after the Wolves won the conference match between the two schools.

After a first-round bye, the Leopards defeated Montesano 51-27 in the quarterfinals, before topping second-ranked Castle Rock 42-36 to set up the final against the defending Class 1A state champions.

Wapato advanced to the final by defeating a pair of league mates. The Wolves handled No. 10 Royal 42-28 in the quarterfinals, and beat fourth-ranked Cashmere 47-27.

Zillah won the final match 41-34.

Leopards seniors Kaydn Cuevas-Schenk (106 pounds) and Leonel Lustre (113) each recorded three pins, while Ryan Vader (144) and Jake Turner (285) also had three wins.

For the Wolves, Raul Sanchez III had three victories, including a pin, at 165, as did Josiah Gutierrez at 215.

Cashmere finished, while Royal tied for seventh place.

In the 2A Dual Championship at Orting, third-ranked Othello fell to Orting in the title match. Toppenish was scheduled to compete but scratched.

Othello beat Steilacoom, 59-17 in the quarterfinals, and upended No. 8 W.F. West 38-28 in the semifinals.

The Huskies’ Xavier Mendez had three victories at 113 pounds, as did Elliot Mitchell at 285.

Othello senior Mason Russell recorded two pins at 138.
