The CWAC district tournament has reached a predictable pairing for Wednesday's championship game.
Second-ranked Prosser rolled to its 12th consecutive win Monday, while No. 6 Ellensburg was notching a seventh straight victory, to set up a Mustangs and Bulldogs final for the fifth year in a row.
Prosser, which already ended its 15-game losing streak to Ellensburg in mid-December, will now try to end the Bulldogs' five-year grip on the district championship.
The Mustangs (20-3) will host their rivals to the north at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the district crown. Both teams punched their tickets to state with Monday's win.
Nearly seven weeks after Selah handed Prosser its last loss, the top-seeded Mustangs beat the
Vikings, seeded third and ranked eighth, 81-58, for their 12th straight win, all of the victories by more than 20 points.
Prosser led by nine points after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 14 by halftime.
Junior star Herbie Wright, who topped the conference in scoring for the second straight season, led the Mustangs with 30 points. Deidra Phillips added 23 points, while Keelyn Cox knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 17.
Elise Kingston scored 23 points for the Vikings (17-7).
Second-seeded Ellensburg continued its late-season push, notching a seventh straight victory, 68-46, against No. 4 seed Grandview.
The sixth-ranked Bulldogs pitched a shutout in the first quarter against the 10th-ranked Greyhounds, who ended Ellensburg’s 82-games regular season winning streak nearly two months ago.
Junior Belle Standish scored a game-high 24 points, and Ellie Markus and Molly Moffat each had 14 points for the Bulldogs (19-4).
Jennalynn Garza had 12 points, and Leyla Rodriguez and Madison Thomas both chipped in 11 for Grandview (17-7).
The Greyhounds will visit the Vikings at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a loser-out contest. The winner will meet a team from the Northwest Conference on Saturday for a state berth.
Ellensburg advances to the state tournament for the sixth straight season, and has made the last four championship games, with titles in 2022 and 2023.
Prosser, which has finished fifth the last two tournaments after back-to-back third-place trophies, is in the state field for the fifth year in a row.
