It was a night for milestones and victories Tuesday for the Selah and Grandview boys basketball teams.
The CWAC district’s top two seeds earned state berths with semifinal victories, and each also had a player reach 1,000 points for his career.
For the third-ranked Vikings, the top seed in the tournament, that was junior guard Oliver Pepper.
The sharpshooter poured in 35 points to lead Selah past Prosser, 98-71.
Pepper sank six first-half 3-pointers and had 25 points before the break.
JR Depell drilled a half dozen treys of his own, and finished with 25 points. Carson Decker and
Jaxon Binge added 12 points apiece for the Vikings (21-2).
Greyhounds senior Frankie Medina, who has battled ankle issues much of the season, also passed the 1,000-points mark, scoring 14 points to help the second seed beat No. 4 Ellensburg 65-40.
Braden Santos topped Grandview (17-6) with 25 points.
The Vikings will host the Greyhounds at 6 p.m. Thursday. Selah beat Grandview 68-67 in a January thriller midway through the conference schedule.
Senior Ryder Smith scored 25 points for Ellensburg (10-14), while Branden Clarke netted 25 points for the third-seeded Mustangs (11-13), who also got 16 from Daniel Diaz Garcia and 10 from Adrian Rivera.
Prosser will host the Bulldogs 6 p.m. Thursday, with the winner advancing to meet a Northwest Conference team for a state berth.

Four teams stay alive
Brooke Kopta’s 3-pointer in overtime Tuesday lifted sixth-seeded Naches Valley to its second straight loser-out victory, 35-33, against No. 4 Cashmere.
The Rangers (13-10), who finished sixth at last year’s state tournament, earned a spot in a crossover with the Northeast 1A for a state berth.
Also qualifying for the cross over was third-seeded Wapato, which rolled past Cascade (Leavenworth), 63-41.
The Wolves (18-5), ranked eighth in the VarsityWA state poll, were led by Brook Alvarado’s 25 points, and 18 more from Callie Strong.
Wapato hosts Naches Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday for seeding in the crossover.
Mia Staggs had 19 points for the Rangers, while Addie Talley had 19 for the Bulldogs (13-10).
Wapato’s boys also stayed alive, beating Cashmere 52-40.
T Fiander had 12 points for the Wolves (14-10), while Tobie Larson had 15 and Tom McDevitt 11 for the Bulldogs (15-9).
Wapato will visit Chelan, a 71-65 victory against Connell, at 6 p.m. Thursday. Both teams have earned spots in crossovers with Northeast 1A teams with state berth at stake.
