Royal's Wardenaar, Zillah's Klitzke take SCAC honors
Conference's top scorers voted Players of the Year ahead of district finals

The stellar year for Royal junior Grant Wardenaar continued this week with the reveal of the SCAC all-conference team.
Less than three months after quarterbacking the Knights to their sixth straight Class 1A state championship, the left-hander was voted the SCAC Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring at nearly 31 points per game.
He was a first-team selection last year for Royal, ranked third in the VarsityWA state poll.
Dekker Van De Graaf, the Player of the Year the previous two seasons, was joined by Zillah teammate Memphis Jones on the first team.
The top-ranked and unbeaten Leopards and Knights meet at 7 p.m. Friday night at Toppenish High School for the District 5 championship.
Zillah junior Makenna Klitzke was voted the girls Player of the Year after helping the Leopards to an unbeaten league record and a No. 1 ranking.
Klitzke’s sophomore teammate Bella Valadez also a first-team pick, along with Royal duo of freshman Lauren Wardenaar and Graycie Kast.
The Knights meet Zillah at 5 p.m. at Toppenish for the District 5 championship.
Zillah’s Mario Mengarelli and Royal’s Farrah Wardenaar were voted the Coaches of the Year.
