One week, one game to get to the Yakima Valley SunDome.
The build-up for the the WIAA’s 2025-26 regional boys basketball playoffs is here as games will take place Friday and Saturday in all six classifications.
What’s at stake is one of next week’s 12 Class 2A state-tournament berths to Yakima.
The top eight WIAA seeds in each regional bracket are protected, which means they have guaranteed trips March 4-7 to the SunDome.
But the lower seeds (Nos. 9-16) play in a winner-moves-on, loser-out format — with the winners also advancing to Wednesday’s state first-round games in the SunDome.
Here is a Class 2A overview — with players to watch, this week’s intriguing matchups and game predictions:
ONE-ON-ONE SHOWDOWN
If you like watching guards who constantly attack the rack, then tune into No. 2 R.A. Long hosting No. 7 Grandview in Kelso on Saturday. 2A GSHL MVP Josh Crane, of the Lumberjacks, and Deontae Howard, of Grandview, are as fearless as they come.
POINTS POTENTIAL
Expect fireworks Saturday night when the consensus two most athletic squads in the classification — No. 1 Bremerton and No. 8 Renton — lock up for a regional matchup at UPS Memorial Fieldhouse. Each team could see up to a whopping 75 possessions.
BORED SCOREBOARD
Both 2A Greater Spokane League champion Pullman and 2A EvCo champion Tumwater are balanced offensively and defensive-minded — with veteran coaching staffs who will throw wrinkles in the game plan on the fly. Classic chess-match game.
DOUBLE-DIGIT DANGER
Yes, 10th-seeded Bainbridge has four lopsided losses this winter, including three to defending 2A champion Bremerton. But there are two things the Knights have to find success from now on — lineup size and a proven leader in first-year coach Scott Orness.
LONGEST ROAD TRIP
West Valley of Spokane will need to find its playing legs quickly Saturday morning after making a 342-mile bus journey to Mount Vernon High School for a loser-out game against Lakewood, the No. 3 squad out of District 1.

GAME PREDICTIONS
No. 8 Renton vs. No. 1 Bremerton
8 p.m. Saturday, UPS Memorial Fieldhouse, Tacoma
Unquestionably, these are the two most athletic teams in the bracket. But the Knights have developed an efficiency within their chaotic style. Can Renton find that?
VarsityWA pick: Bremerton, 82-68
No. 7 Grandview vs. No. 2 R.A. Long
2 p.m. Saturday, Kelso High School
The Lumberjacks have swagger. Grandview is smooth and even-keeled. But there is a common level of toughness these two teams share, especially in guard play.
VarsityWA pick: R.A. Long, 64-56
No. 6 Anacortes vs. No. 3 Selah
10 a.m. Saturday, Davis High School
Complete opposites. Tough-and-physical Anacortes is spearheaded by football standouts. And the Vikings, paced by Oliver Pepper, want to fly around in space.
VarsityWA pick: Selah, 74-69
No. 5 Tumwater vs. No. 4 Pullman
4 p.m. Saturday, West Valley High School, Spokane
In the out-for-statewide-respect matchup, Pullman’s methodical approach, led by Vaughn Holstead, should be tested by junior-heavy Tumwater’s athleticism and pace.
VarsityWA pick: Tumwater, 54-51
No. 16 Franklin Pierce vs. No. 9 Lynden
8 p.m. Friday, Lynden High School
Can the Cardinals’ fullcourt pressure disrupt Lynden in its own gymnasium? That will be the biggest key in Franklin Pierce staying within earshot for an upset.
VarsityWA pick: Lynden, 64-50
No. 15 Foster vs. No. 10 Bainbridge
4 p.m. Saturday, UPS Memorial Fieldhouse, Tacoma
Twitchy Bulldogs are no slouch, led by PG Myjeer Rigney. But Spartans faced Bremerton three times, and will find ways to keep this a slower halfcourt affair.
VarsityWA pick: Bainbridge, 58-51
No. 14 Clover Park vs. No. 11 Columbia River
6 p.m. Saturday, Camas High School
Uninterrupted mayhem is in store with as wild and frenetic as these two squads play. Rapids have more depth in rotation to offset Marshall Scott’s heroics for Warriors.
VarsityWA pick: Columbia River, 67-56
No. 13 West Valley of Spokane vs. No. 12 Lakewood
10 a.m. Saturday, Mount Vernon High School
Do the Eagles have an answer for Lakewood’s do-it-all guard Caleb Greenland, the best player in the 2A NWC? Nathan Zettle and company will try and contain him.
VarsityWA pick: Lakewood, 60-53
