One week, one game to get to the Yakima Valley SunDome.
The build-up for the the WIAA’s 2025-26 regional girls basketball playoffs is here as games will take place Friday and Saturday in all six classifications.
What’s at stake is one of next week’s 12 Class 2A state-tournament berths to Yakima.
The top eight WIAA seeds in each regional bracket are protected, which means they have guaranteed trips March 4-7 to the SunDome.
But the lower seeds (Nos. 9-16) play in a winner-moves-on, loser-out format — with the winners also advancing to Wednesday state first-round games in the SunDome.
Here is a Class 2A overview — with players to watch, this week’s intriguing matchups and game predictions:
ONE-ON-ONE SHOWDOWN
Need to dip into the lower seeds to find two of the classification’s top scorers — Nathan Hale’s Zia-Daye Anderson, a Boise State signee, and Sequim’s Gracie Chartraw — matched up this weekend. Expect plenty of deep 3-pointers.
POINTS POTENTIAL
Both the expected fast-paced Clarkston-Archbisop Murphy and Deer Park-Ellensburg games could approach 150 combined points. The common denominator? All four teams have exceptional scoring guard play.
BORED SCOREBOARD
Depends on which side of the Lynden home scoreboard you look at Friday. The Lions are expected to keep the home side of it busy. The visiting side? Not so much as Selah tries to figure out how to attack the best defensive squad in Class 2A.
DOUBLE-DIGIT DANGER
In this classification, there is a distinct level of maturity between the top eight teams and the lower eight seeds. Darkhorse? Giving a nod to the team with the NCAA Division I playmaker in Zia-Daye Anderson — 11th-seeded Nathan Hale.
LONGEST ROAD TRIP
In actuality, both Archbishop Murphy and Clarkston will be on a bus for multiple hours traveling to their regional site at Cheney High School. Thing is, the Wildcats will drive more than double the miles — 284 miles.

GAME PREDICTIONS
No. 8 Selah vs. No. 1 Lynden
6 p.m. Friday, Lynden High School
Selah is streaky behind guards Makenna Pepper and Elise Kingston. And Lynden is Lynden — orderly defensively, unselfish offensively with star power in Finley Parcher.
VarsityWA pick: Lynden, 71-40
No. 7 Ellensburg vs. No. 2 Deer Park
8 p.m. Saturday, West Valley (Spokane) High School
Rematch of 2025 state semifinals, won by the Bulldogs, who are a more free-flowing offense now under first-year coach Austin Smith. That’s great news for Bella Standish.
VarsityWA pick: Deer Park, 70-63
No. 6 W.F. West vs. No. 3 Prosser
6 p.m. Friday, Grandview High School
Mustangs are always in attack mode — on both ends. If W.F. West breaks their fullcourt pressure, Dilyn Boeck and company should get enough open looks in transition.
VarsityWA pick: Prosser, 64-56
No. 5 Archbishop Murphy vs. No. 4 Clarkston
2 p.m. Saturday, Cheney High School
The Bantams will try and create halfcourt chaos on both ends, but the biggest question is how will they defend perimeter sharp-shooter Brooke Blachly?
VarsityWA pick: Archbishop Murphy, 67-63
No. 16 Ridgefield vs. No. 9 Fife
Noon Saturday, UPS Memorial Fieldhouse, Tacoma
Rarely is there a path for the last seed to make it to Yakima — but do not be surprised if the Spudders hang with the 2A SPSL and District 3 champions for a while.
VarsityWA pick: Fife, 52-45
No. 15 Kingston vs. No. 10 Mark Morris
4 p.m. Saturday, Kelso High School
What are Kingston’s chances? All season, the Bucs have beaten just two teams with a winning record, including Steilacoom to get to the regional round.
VarsityWA pick: Mark Morris, 68-48
No. 14 Sequim vs. No. 11 Nathan Hale
2 p.m. Saturday, Bellevue High School
Boise State-bound Zia-Daye Anderson will still get her points, even against extra defensive attention — and others should get open looks because of it.
VarsityWA pick: Nathan Hale, 61-42
No. 13 Renton vs. No. 12 Port Angeles
6 p.m. Saturday, UPS Memorial Fieldhouse, Tacoma
Port Angeles is skilled and structured. Renton loves nothing more than to create chaos with physicality and pressure. Which style wins out?
VarsityWA pick: Port Angeles, 53-50
