Third-seeded Prosser rolls into 2A quarterfinals

Mustangs senior Phillips nets 30 points, Wright adds 20 in 14th straight win

GRANDVIEW – Third-seeded Prosser took its winning streak to the Class 2A girls state basketball tournament and wasn’t slowed a bit.


Mustangs senior Deidra Phillips scored a team-high 30 points and CWAC MVP Herbie Wright had 20 in a 71-54 victory against No. 6 W.F. West on Friday night at Grandview High School.


Prosser, a semifinalist in four straight state tournaments, earned a spot in the quarterfinals Thursday in the Yakima Valley SunDome. The Mustangs opponent is to be determined.


Up just two at halftime, Prosser (22-3) outscored the Bearcats 39-25 in the second half en route to a 14th straight victory.


Phillips scored 19 of her points after the intermission, and Wright added 12.


Junior Dylin Boeck, the Evergreen 2A MVP. scored a game-high 31 points for the Bearcats (20-5).

W.F. West will meet the winner of Saturday’s matchup between No. 14 Sequim and 11th-seeded Nathan Hale in Wednesday’s play-in round.


Selah falls to No. 1 Lynden

LYNDEN – Top-seeded and two-time defending champion Lynden handled No. 8 Selah 67-45 in a round-of-16 game Friday night between the protected seeds.


The Lions, the lone unbeaten in the field at 24-0, advances to Thursday’s quarterfinal round in the Yakima Valley SunDome.  Lynden has won 72 games in a row.


Jordyn Jamieson and Brynn Bettis each scored 10 points for the Vikings (19-8), who will meet the winner of Saturday’s game against ninth-seeded Fife and No. 16 Ridgefield.


Elise Kingston scored eight for Selah, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career.


Reigning tournament MVP Finley Parcher poured in a game-high 30 points, and 2024 tourney MVP Payton Mills added 16.
