TACOMA – The season ended for the No. 8 West Valley Rams on Friday, falling 64-42 to the No. 4 Glacier Peak Grizzlies in a loser-out game of the boys 4A state basketball tournament Friday.
The Rams finish the season with a record of 20-5, one game short of leaving the Tacoma Dome with a trophy.
West Valley was led by senior Parker Mills, who is committed to Washington State to play football next year. Mills finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in his final high-school game. Sophomore Austin Birley added nine points for West Valley.
The Rams came into the tournament with high hopes and gave No. 2 and undefeated Richland all they could handle in Thursday’s quarterfinals, but the Bombers would prevail, pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 76-62 win.
Glacier Peak, which was led by the 24 points of junior Zachary Albright, outscored West Valley 43-16 in the second and third quarters to 27 going into the final quarter. The Rams outscored Glacier Peak 13-6 in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t overcome the damage that had been done in the second and third quarters.
West Valley shot 16-for-48 (33 percent) for the game, while the Grizzlies finished 26-for-54 (48.1 percent).
Glacier Peak also upended the Rams in the SunDome Shootout in late December, and split to postseason games last season.
