Lynden Christian's Hintz 1A state tournament MVP

Zillah senior Van De Graaf, Royal junior Wardenaar voted first team all-tourney

YAKIMA – Lynden Christian junior guard Dawson Hintz was voted the Class 1A boys state basketball tournament MVP after leading the Lyncs to their ninth state championship in the Yakima Valley SunDome.


Hintz averaged 17.0 points per game and scored 18 points in the title contest against Zillah.


Leopards senior Dekker Van De Graaf capped his high school career by averaging a tournament-best 20.3 points a contest, and was the runner-up in MVP voting for second-place Zillah.


Royal junior Grant Wardenaar, the SCAC MVP, topped the tournament in points with 79 in four games and was a first-team selection for the Knights, who finished third.


Zillah’s Budda Aranda and Royal’s Dax Jenks were voted second team by the media.
