Surprise, surprise ... or is it? Davis wins Washington Gatorade honor
Bremerton junior claims Washington Player of the Year over Rainier Beach's Stokes

Usually, Miah Davis is up in the morning before his son.
But not Friday.
And not with the news that came to light around town.
Even with No. 1 national recruit Tyran Stokes across the water in Seattle, it was junior guard Jalen Davis who racked up one of the state’s best postseason boys basketball honors: 2025-26 Gatorade state player of the year.
“He woke me up — and he’s usually not up that early,” said Miah Davis, also the Knights’ coach. “He said, ‘Dad, is this real, is this true?’”
Also a member of VarsityWA’s all-classification all-state first team, Davis averaged 30.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in leading Bremerton to back-to-back WIAA Class 2A championships.
Still, with Stokes — who transferred to Rainier Beach in November from California — around, many figured it was a forgone conclusion the top prospect would nab that award.
Not so fast.
Miah Davis had his own high-profile ace in the hole contribute in the application process — alumnus Marvin Williams, a
former Gatorade state MVP and McDonald’s All-American who played in the NBA.
Williams wrote a letter of recommendation on Jalen Davis’ behalf.
“They have a good relationship,” Miah Davis said.
