Four weeks after leading their high schools to state championships, several players from the Davis and Zillah girls basketball teams will team as part of Team Yakima in the SWX Classic.

Two-time CBBN Player of the Year Cheyenne Hull, and fellow Pirates juniors Isa Garcia and Kobe Johnson, will join Zillah junior Makenna Klitzke, the SCAC MVP, and Leopards sophomore Bella Valadez at the April 4 event at Davis High School.

The girls game is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the boys at 5.

Davis repeated as Class 4A champions in the Tacoma Dome, while Zillah upended top-seeded King’s in the 1A final for its first state championship.

CWAC Player of the Year and two-time conference scoring champion Herbie Wright will join the Yakima efforts after leading the Mustangs to second place in the 2A state tournament setting the Yakima Valley single-game scoring record with 57 points.

On the boys side, WIBCA 2A Player of the Year Frankie Medina of Grandview, and Zillah’s Dekker Van De Graaf, the 1A winner of the same award, will lead the Yakima squad.

West Valley’s Austin Birley, ranked as one of the top sophomores in the state, also is scheduled to play, along with Sunnyside junior Aiden Sanchez, the CBBN’s leading scorer.

Garcia won the MVP at last year’s game, scoring 19 points to spark Yakima’s 117-72 victory.

Selah’s Jackson Pepper nabbed MVP honors in the boys game, scoring 14 points to help Yakima edge Tri-Cities 110-107.

The rosters were selected by the SWX sports staff, and some players who were asked had scheduling conflicts and were unable to play.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for 18 and younger.
