Top conference contenders roll to sweeps on diamond
East Valley, Ellensburg, Royal double dominant, Selah baseball, Prosser fastpitch cruise

The favorites on the diamond in the CWAC and the SCAC showed Saturday why they’re expected to be in contention for state berths in late May.
Of the 24 baseball or softball games, 18 were shortened by the 10-run rule.
In the CWAC, sixth-ranked East Valley rolled bast Quincy with reigning conference MVP Brandon Stone pitching a five-inning two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Brock Goodell driving in four in the opener.
Stone added a three-run homer in the second game and Braden Albrecht added two hits (including a double) and scored two runs and drove in another.
Perennial powers Selah and Ellensburg also posted sweeps.
The Vikings handled Toppenish with Colton Barthel going 5-for-5 with three RBI in the opener, and Hudson Sager 4-for-4 with a double and a three RBI in the second game.
Ty Breinholt led the Bulldogs in the opening win against Prosser, with two hits – one of them a triple – and four RBI, while Carter Peone double and drove in three in the second game.
The Bulldogs, Red Devils and Mustangs posted lopsided sweeps in CWAC fastpitch action.
Ellensburg’s Emerson Morrill grove in four runs in the opener, and Miley Porter knocked in five in the second game.
East Valley’s Presley Weatherley tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and helped her cause with home run against Quincy.
Sophiya Castaneda homered twice and drove in four runs in the second game.
Lina Lefebvre has had four hits and six RBI in Prosser’s sweep of Grandview.
In the SCAC, Royal posted a double sweep of Wapato.
Mason Meseberg drove in eight runs for the Knights baseball team, and Avarie Hill’s home run, two doubles and seven RBI in the second game capped the sweep for the fastpitch team.
Reigning SCAC co-Player of the Year began the sweep with 10 strikeouts on the mound, and three hits – including a triple – and four RBI in the opener.
Eighth-ranked College Place took two from No. 9 Cashmere.
