Unlike the actual championship game, the inaugural Second Street Sideline Showdown went to overtime.
Eastmont boys basketball coach Wayde Knowles benefited from the relatively low-scoring victory for Michigan against UConn on Monday night in Indianapolis.
Knowles was tied atop the standings with Naches Valley boys coach Rick Hartman with 109 points out of a possible 161. In the tiebreaker – combined points for the two teams in the championship, Knowles predicted 137 while Hartman’s prediction, 140, was closer to forecasted high-scoring contest.
With both teams, however, shooting less than 40% percent for the contest, the Wolverines and Huskies combined for just 132 points.
The top-five finishers were all within four points, and all had Michigan winning the tournament.
Knowles wins a gift card to the Second Street Grill in downtown Yakima, which sponsored the contest.
